The Department of English and Centre for English Teaching & Research (CETR) of Dhaka University (DU) have jointly organized a seminar titled, 'History Revisited: 1947 Partition in Tanvir Mokammel's Films' at 10:00 am tomorrow May 31, 2022 at RC Majumder Auditorium of the university. Vice Chancellor of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman will be gracing the programme as chief guest. Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof Dr. Muhammad Samad and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Dr. A. S. M. Maksud Kamal will be present as special guests.
Tanvir Mokammel, the speaker of this audio-visual presentation, is a renowned Bangladeshi filmmaker and writer as well as an alumnus of the Department of English. He received the Ekushey Padak in 2017. He won the prestigious Bangladesh National Film Award in multiple categories for three of his films: Nodir Naam Modhumoti (1995), Chitra Nodir Pare (1999) and Lalsalu (2001). He received the Chalachitram Award as well as several international awards. He is the current director of Bangladesh Film Institute in Dhaka. He also writes poems, short stories and newspaper articles on cinema and cultural issues.
The department of English and Centre for English Teaching and Research (CETR) have organized this unique event for the 1st year students in order to connect co-curricular activities with academic programme.
This is the first session in a series of events that will strive to bridge the gap between academic and co-curricular activity. This particular session will help students connect more deeply with the material and reinforce what they learned in their 'Bangladesh Studies' course, which required them to study the history of the 1947 partition.
