A seminar on ‘Social Capital and Capital Allocation Efficiency’ was held at Bangladesh Institute of Capital Market (BICM). The ‘BICM Research Seminar-14’ under the title was held on Thursday (August 11).
Mohammad Nazmul Hasan Bhuiyan of North Carolina Agriculture and Technical State University presented the main keynote paper in the seminar with Dr. Mahmuda Akhter, executive president of BICM; in the chair.
Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, professor and chairman at Finance dept of Dhaka University; and Shakila Halim, assistant professor at the department of DU; took part in the discussion, while Subarna Barua, a research fellow at BICM and associate professor at International Business of Dhaka University; moderated the event.
In his keynote, Mohammad Nazmul Hasan Bhuiyan said that this paper explores how social capital is influencing firm performance. The research shows that the community social capital of a firm’s headquarters area has a negative effect on its capital allocation efficiency.
In her speech, Dr. Mahmuda Akhter said that the BICM is the platform for financial market research in Bangladesh. The BICM regularly organises such seminars as part of its emphasis on research related to financial markets, especially capital markets. Research is essential to take the capital market of the country to its desired position.
