Seminar on safe blood transfusion held at DU

A seminar on “Safe Blood Transfusion in Bangladesh and Role of Badhan Transfusion Center” was held under the auspices of Badhan Foundation on Friday at R I Khan auditorium of Dhaka University (DU). DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the seminar as chief guest.

In the meanwhile, 'Badhan Transfusion Center' was officially inaugurated on the second floor of DU Medical Center. Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the center as the chief guest at a function held on Thursday.

Founder and President of Badhan Foundation Shahidul Islam Ripon presided over the programme while Director of Dhaka Medical College Hospital Brigadier General AKM Nasir Uddin and National Co-ordinator of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery Dr Samanta Lal Sen addressed it as special guests. Consultant of Badhan Transfusion Center Professor Dr Munshi M Habibullah delivered the keynote paper in this seminar.

DU VC said voluntarily blood donors' organization Badhan has set a unique example in providing humanitarian services. He hoped that their services would continue in the future.

He said the services of the newly established 'Badhan Transfusion Center' would be open to the general public, including members of the DU family. Professor Akhtaruzzaman also urged the activists and members of Badhan to ensure quality and safety of blood transfusion. Blood transfusion service is an essential component of modern health care service. He stressed the need for involving more students and volunteers with activities and services of Badhan.
