The first part of PhD seminar on ‘Rights to Information in Bangladesh: Technical Review’ was held at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia on Saturday.
PhD fellow Altaf Hossain, assistant Professor of Al-Fiqh and Legal Studies department of the university explained his article under the supervision of IU treasurer Prof Dr M Selim Toha.
The seminar was held at the conference room of Law faculty of the university while its dean Prof Dr Reba Mandal present as the chief guest with Prof Dr M Johurul Islam, chairman of Law department presided over the seminar.
The PhD researcher has given explanation on its research framework, objectives, necessity and logics of rights to information, restrictions to get information in general due to providing free flow of information and ensuring rights of public information.
The section 19 of UN Human Right Charter 1948 and section 19(2) of International Covenant Civil Political Rights-1996 has been included at the research paper while 15 rights of European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedom-1953 and the Rules of Business 1996, Government Servants Conduct Rules 1976 also mentioned through the paper.
Among others Prof Dr Shahjahan Mondol of law department, Prof Dr M Yaqub Ali of Al-Quran and Islamic Studies department, Prof Dr Debashish Sharma chairman of Economics department, Prof Dr Syed Maksudur Rahman of Al-Hadith and Islamic Studies department were took part here.
