Seeds, fertilizers distributed to 2,400 Jhenaidah farmers

Summer onion and high yielding varieties of Transplanted Aman or T-Aman paddy seeds and fertilizers were distributed to 2,400 farmers in Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila to boost the yield in the season. The initiatives will reduce the cost of seeds and fertilizers for the farmers. 

The seeds and fertilizers were distributed on the upazila parishad premises on Tuesday by the lawmaker of Jhenaidah-2 constituency Md Nasser Shahrear Zahedee.

The distribution programme was presided over by Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Razia Akter Chowdhury. Md Nasser Shahrear Zahedee attended the programme as the chief guest.

As the farmers are the key persons in producing the crops, their interest might be preserved. 

The lawmaker urged the agricultural department officers to be careful so that no croplands might be used for establishing any industry any way.

Healso said cultivation of summer onion will help the farmers financially where the crisis of onion prevails in the market. It will also reduce the import of onion in crisis. Moreover, the 115-day short duration T-Aman paddy will save the time of the farmers and they could cultivate other suitable crops during the short time.

Deputy director of Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) in Khamarbari of Jhenaidah Chandi Chandra Roy, upazila agricultural officer Nur E Nabi, women vice chairman Arati Datta and assistant agricultural officer Junayed Habib among others present.
