Maskalai seeds and fertilizer was distributed among 350 poor farmers free of cost in Jhenaidah Sadar upazila on Sunday morning.
Upazila agriculture office organized the programme to increase ate area of operation and yield to make the farming profitable for farmers.
Conducted by Junayeed Habib, agriculture extension officer (AEO) of the department of agriculture extension (DAE) in Jhenaidah Sadar, Upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) in Jhenaidah Sadar Sadiya Jarin attended the event as chief guest. Upazila agriculture officer (UAO) Nur E Nabi, woman vice chairman Arati Dutt, Bangladesh Krishak league Jhenaidah district unit general secretary Ashraful Islam among others present. A total of 350 marginal and poor farmers received five kilograms of BARI Maskalai 3 seeds and 15 kilograms of chemical fertilizers each free of cost for Kharip-2 season.
UNO Sadiya Jarin in her speech as chief guest said the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has allocated incentives for the farmers to expand the area of crops and make the farmers self-sufficient in production on their croplands.
It will help boost their production and meet the nutrition aspects of the people for pulse crops countrywide. It will also help strengthen the socio-economic base of the ever neglected farmers. She urged upon the farmers to utilize the seeds and fertilizers for their own interest, UNO Sadiya Jarin said.
