Noakhali district administration has imposed Section -144 banning all sorts of public meetings, mass gathering, procession and rallies at Maizdee of Noakhali as two factions of Awami League called a meeting at the same venue at the same time.
An order signed by District Magistrate Mohammad Khorshed Alam Khan said Section-144 has been imposed in all areas of Noakhali Municipality from 6-00 AM to 6-00 PM on Tuesday. The order of imposing of Section-144 was announced through microphones in the town on Monday night. Police have been deployed in various places of the town following the order.
Earlier, followers of Noakhali Municipality Mayor Shahid Ullah Khan and the President of Sadar upazila Awami League Advocate Sihab Uddin Shahin invited meeting at the Bijoy Moncho premises of central Shahid Minar on Tuesday morning in protest against publishing objectionable remarks involving General Secretary of AL, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader.
At the same venue and same time, followers of District General Secretary of AL and Member of Parliament of Sadar-Subornochar constituency also invited meeting. A tense situation has been prevailing among both the rival groups following the invitation to the meeting at the same venue at the same time. So, to avoid any risk of common people, district administration imposed Section-144 in the town.
It is learnt, on 21 January night, Member of Parliament, General Secretary of district AL Ekramul Karim Chowdhury commented AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader as a member of Rajakar family in the Facebook live video. Though he withdrew the video soon, it goes viral within a short time.
On the other hand, demanding an organisational action against Ekramul Karim Chowdhury, Abdul Kader Mirza, younger brother of Obaidul Quader at a meeting held at Rupali Chattar of Bosuhat on Monday evening has called a half-day hartal at Companyganj upazila on next Sunday.
