Both the ruling Awami League (AL) and the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) have started campaigns with the JatiyaSangsad (JS) polls nearing.

The prospective candidates have been moving here and there to contact their near and dear ones to get support in the polls. The ruling AL is trying to keep the seat under its clutch once again, while the opposition BNP is committed to regaining the seat.

To get relief from some of the incumbent lawmakers, some leaders and activists in the ruling party have been thinking of new and dynamic leadership to fulfill their dreams that were not realized in last terms of JS polls.

Jhenaidah-4 seat comprising Kaliganj upazila and part of JhenaidahSadar is enriched with 281,621 voters including 139,86 female voters in 11 unions and a municipality in Kaliganj and four unions Naldanga, Ghorshal, Fursusndi and Maharajpur of JhenaidahSadar upazila.

Incumbent lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar was elected bagging 103,478 votes.

The name of a new aspirant was heard among the people. The man Golam KibriaAnu of Narikelbaria area in JhenaidahSadar was an expatriate in the United States of America for a couple of decades.

The eldest son of renowned freedom fighter Ali Hasan Ashu, Anu is widely known for his kind heart in Jhenaidah. Once a Chhatra League activist, Anu was one of the leaders in Jhenaidiah who had placed 10-point demand to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1973 when Bangabandhu had addressed a huge gathering at  Jhenaidah Wazir Ali High school ground.

In an interview with Roving Correspondent DelwarKabir, devoted leader Golam KibriaAnu said he seeks nomination for the seat from the party chief Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina when the leadership quality among the political leaders was not grown from Jhenaidah in last half a century that was liable for “almost no development” in Jhenaidah.

His 10-point demand submitted to Bangabandhu in 1973, was establishing a railway line, a university, medical college, second office of the deputy inspector general (DIG) of police, etc. in Jhenaidah. If the party leader nominates him he was hopeful to fulfill the demand of the mass people of south-western part of the country.

Incumbent lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar is seeking nomination for the seat once again, while ShamimAraMannan, wife of late lawmaker Abdul Mannan is not hopeless at all. She desires the party leader to consider her proposal as a leader from the women community.

A large number of BNP leaders and activists under the leadership of Saiful Islam Feroj have been organized to see him as a lawmaker for the “lost seat”, while some of the activists have been extending their hands towards BNP Kaliganj upazila unit joint convener Hamidul Islam.

Wife of ex BNP lawmaker ShahiduzzamanBeltu, Sechchhasewak Dal central committee senior joint convener Saiful Islam Feroj and Krishak Dal executive committee member Harun Or Rashid Mollah might seek nomination. They have been conducting drives to get support from the voters. HM Mamtazur Rahman of IslamiAndolon, Isahaque Ali Biswas of Jaker Party and KhondakerMehedi Hasan of LDP might seek nomination from the seat in the polls.

Sechchhasewak Dal central committee senior joint convener Saiful Islam Feroj said his party wants to oust the present AL government. He might contest in the seat when his party chief Tareq Rahman will nominate him as BNP candidate in the polls, Saiful Islam Feroj said.
