The cabinet has approved the draft policy of setting up a science and technology university in Chandpur, the home district of Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni. The draft of 'Chandpur Science and Technology University Act, 2019' was approved on Monday at the regular meeting of the cabinet held at the Prime Minister's Office, chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
At a briefing at the secretariat after the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam said the university would be like any other university.
The President will be the Chancellor of the university and a syndicate is to be formed. Vice-chancellor, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Treasurer will be appointed as well.
A representative nominated by the chairman of the University Grants Commission, a representative of the designated joint secretary of government, a representative from the government-designated science and technology research institute and three prominent Chancellor-nominated academics will be appointed.
The cabinet secretary said the academy council of the university will be similar to other universities.
