Government employees in the country are set to enjoy a continuous four-day holiday, combining Durga Puja celebrations with the weekly weekend. At the same time, schools and colleges will remain closed for a total of 11 days, as announced by the authorities concerned.
An official from the Chief Advisor’s Office informed the media that an executive order was issued on Thursday, declaring the extended holiday period. The notification regarding this decision is published on Tuesday, confirming that the holiday will span from Thursday to Sunday, marking an extended break for government employees.
The extended holiday results from the upcoming weekend—Friday and Saturday—which are regular weekly holidays, followed by the official Durga Puja holiday on Sunday, October 13, for Bijoya Dashami. Additionally, the government has extended the Puja holiday by one extra day, with Thursday now included as part of the Durga Puja leave.
The special assistant to the Chief Advisor, Mahfuz Alam, confirmed the decision, said, “The Durga Puja holiday will be extended by one more day, and Thursday will also be included. The official notification issued today.”
For educational institutions, the break will be even longer. Schools and colleges will remain closed for nine days to observe Durga Puja, Fatiha-e-Yazdaham, Laxmi Puja, and Probarana Purnima. However, including the weekend holidays, the total closure period will extend to 11 days.
According to the annual calendar provided by the Ministry of Education, the Durga Puja break will begin on Wednesday, October 9, and continue until Thursday, October 17.
As Friday and Saturday are weekly holidays, educational institutions will reopen on Sunday, October 20.
Within this holiday period, October 13 marks the official holiday for Bijoya Dashami, October 15 for Fatiha-e-Yazdaham, and October 16 for both Laxmi Puja and Probarana Purnima, resulting in an extended break for both students and government employees alike.
This long break has been welcomed by many, providing an opportunity for both festivities and relaxation.
