Schools, madrasas reopen in 39 dists

Published : 04 May 2024 09:40 PM

Classes resumed in secondary schools, madrasas, and technical institutes after a hiatus prompted by the ongoing heat wave on Saturday.

However, the Ministry of Education has taken the decision to close educational institutions in 25 districts due to the severity of the heat wave. Primary schools, on the other hand, are set to reopen today, Sunday.

All secondary schools, colleges, madrasas, and technical institutions within Khulna (10 districts) and Rajshahi (8 districts) divisions, along with Dhaka and Tangail of Dhaka Division, Chandpur of Chittagong Division, and Kurigram, Dinajpur, and Nilphamari districts of Rangpur Division, remained closed on Saturday due to the heat wave forecast by the Meteorological Department.

Last Thursday, the Ministry of Education had forewarned that educational institutions in various districts might remain shuttered despite the Saturday reopening.

Furthermore, the Ministry declared that classroom activities in all secondary-level educational institutions would resume starting Saturday, following the conclusion of the heat wave break.

In parallel, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has announced the reopening of primary schools from today, with classes set to continue for a few days adhering to previously stipulated timings until 11:30 am. Pre-primary classes, however, will remain suspended until further notice, alongside the discontinuation of assemblies (daily gatherings) until the heat wave subsides to a manageable level.
