Schoolgirls receive sanitary napkin

The girls from secondary level of four educational institutions in remote villages of Jhenidah have received hygienic sanitary napkins from Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Jhenidah Saroj Kumar Nath. 

The materials were distributed among them in functions at Miakundu Girls High School and Uttarnarayanpur Women Madrashah on Tuesday.  Department of Women Affairs (DWA) in Jhenidah has organised the napkin distribution function for safe health and periodical management of the tomorrow’s mothers.

Some female students of Miakundu Girls High School said most of them were passing critical times with local managements that was not safe and hygienic for them due to lack of awareness and financial constraints of the guardians. The new materials will help them a lot as their safeguards during the time, they said.

DWA office sources said they have been running the activities under the adolescent girls health protection and women empowerment programme and distributing the napkins among 200 girls of the high school and madrashah in Jhenidah Sadar. 200 girls of Jalalpur High School and Panchlia High School in Kotchandpur upazila will also receive the napkins for the first time which they might collect from the entrepreneurs next at a subsidy rate.

DWA Deputy Director in Jhenidah Nilufar Rahman said the government has been running programmes as per the national policy for women development of 2011. 

DC Saroj Kumar Nath attended the programme as chief guest at Miakundu Girls High School with Fursundi Union chairman Abdul Malek Mina in the chair. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shammi Islam, DWA deputy director Nilufar Rahman, assistant commissioner (land) Fatema Tuz Johra, retired principal Aminur Rahman Tuku and DWA programme officer Khondaker Sharifa Akter among others spoke. 

The speakers said the girls of today are lucky enough to be aware by the government authorities, while it was absurd in past times where most of the adolescent girls had been suffering from various periodic management troubles.

They (girls) should keep themselves physically and mentally fit to compete the globe male as participation of both male and female, mandatory for overall development of the family and society, speakers said.
