Police have arrested Rabiul Islam Hridoy, a youth from Kurigram, for raping a ninth grade student of Pakundia in Kishoreganj on the pretext of marriage.
He is the son of Mukhlesur Rahman of Pateshwari village under Kurigram Sadarupazila.
Pakundia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (O C) Mofizur Rahman said, "Police arrested the boy from Kurigram and handed him over to our police station on Wednesday (19 August) afternoon." He has been sent to court in a case filed by the girl's father. According to a case filed by Pakundia Police Station on June 17, Rabiul of Kurigram got acquainted with the ninth class student of Kodalia SI High School in Pakundia through an unknown mobile phone number.
Rabiul used to visit the girl's house more than once with the help of Chandi Pasha Union Parishad member Hiran, his brother Ratan and Afaz Uddin.
On May 20, as the girl's parents were not at home, the boy went to the girl's house again in the afternoon and raped her. Most recently, on the night of June 10, the boy was caught by her father while trying to rape her. At that time, the girl's father informed the Pakundia Assistant Commissioner of Land in the hope of a fair trial. Meanwhile, local UP member Hiran, his brothers Ratan and Afaz Uddin helped them to escape. He also threatened to kill and injure her and her family.
After two days’ of the incident (June 12) at around 8 am, Rabiul left the girl in front of a hotel at Gazipur crossroads. At that time, her father found out through a correspondent of a local newspaper and rescued the girl and gave her first aid. Later, former chairman of Chandipasha Union Main Uddin promised to address the issue but made various excuses.
He then informed the locals and filed a case with Pakundia Police Station on June 17.
