A ninth-grader died after falling off the rooftop of a ten-storey building while playing cricket in Chawk Bazar area of Chattogram city on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Monam Samad Tahmin, 15, daughter of Haider Ali of the area. She was a student at Madarbari City Girls High School in the city.
The victim’s father Haider Ali said he left home around 9 am for work in Agrabad area.
His daughter took Tk50 for transport from him to school. He said his wife went to drop the younger daughter at another school. Later, he received news that his daughter had fallen from the building.
Haider Ali also said Tahmin was short-sighted, so she wore glasses. His daughter even felt dizzy when she stood under the sun, Haider Ali said.
Mohammad Wali Uddin Akbar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chawk Bazar Police Station, said they recovered the body and sent it to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
“Whether it is a suicide or accident will be known upon investigation,” added the OC.
