The judicial activities of both the Appellate and High Court divisions of the Supreme Court remained suspended on Monday (January 17) in honour of late Justice TH Khan, a former High Court judge and the eldest lawyer of the Supreme Court.
Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique suspended all judicial functions, showing respect to Justice Mohammad Tafazzal Hossain Khan, popularly known as TH Khan, who is also former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA).
The eminent jurist was buried at his ancestral village Outi at Haluaghat upazila in Mymensingh on Monday afternoon after holding the last Namaz-e-Janaza there.
Meanwhile, the first Namaz-e-Janaza was held on the premises of the SCBA in the capital on Monday noon with participation of thousands of lawyers and judges.
Chief Justice Hasan Foyez Siddiqui, judges of the Appellate Division and High Court Division, former presidents of the Supreme Court Bar Association, its former secretaries, senior lawyers and thousands of lawyers joined the Namaz-e-Janaza.
Before the Namaz-e-Janaza, TH Khan’s eldest son and former MP Afzal H Khan delivered a commemorative speech. Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal, Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association, also spoke there.
After the Namaz-e-Janaza, Chief Justice Hasan Foyez Siddiqui and different other socio-political organisations, including the Attorney General’s Office, Supreme Court Bar Association, Nationalist Lawyers Forum and Law Reporters Forum, paid their last respects to the eldest lawyer of the country by placing wreaths at his coffin.
Another Namaz-e-Janaza of the lawyer was held at Mohammadpur in the capital.
Justice TH Khan, also a former MP, a former minister and a former judge of the International Court, died at a hospital in the capital on Sunday. He was 102.
He was a founding member of the BNP and was the vice-chairman of the party. He was also the founding president of the Nationalist Lawyers Forum.
Born on October 21 in 1920, in Haluaghat, TH Khan started his career as a lawyer in 1947.
