Saying ‘no’ to drugs is smartness: DNCC Mayor

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam on Saturday said that the youth who can say 'no' to drugs are really smart and modern. 

“Because they know that drugs are a silent killer that kills all. So keep yourself away from drugs and keep yourself busy in sports’, the Mayor came up with the observation while inaugurating the Dhaka North Mayor Basketball Tournament-2024 at Uttara Sector- 4 Park in the capital.

The DNCC Mayor said that a child's intellectual development flourishes through sports. Children and teenagers should be more aware about sports. Parents need to be more careful. Instead of buying them expensive mobile phones, buy sports equipment. They will offcourse come to the field.

Children are holding mobile phones all the day round and spent their valuable times with it. These habits must be changed. We will have to assist them to be changed, he added.

Mentioning that the doors of sports are open to all, he said, the city corporation is ready to welcome the young generation. We will always be by their side.

At the end of the inauguration, the toffee of the tournament was unveiled. Teams from 44 educational institutions and various academies will participate in this tournament.

Parliament Member of Dhaka-18 Constituency Khosru Chowdhury, former Member of Parliament Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin and others were also present at the inauguration programme.
