Minister of Commerce of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Dr Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasabi arrived in Dhaka on Friday to attend the Bangladesh Business Summit 2023.
He is the Chairman of the General Authority of Saudi’s Foreign Trade.
The foreign ministry said apart from attending the summit, he will also discuss bilateral, commercial and global issues with Bangladesh leadership.
A special flight carrying the Saudi Commerce Minister landed at the BAF base Bangabandhu in Dhaka on Friday evening. Foreign Minister Dr. A K Abdul Momen welcomed him at the airbase. Senior Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce were also present at that time, the foreign ministry said.
The commerce minister is in Dhaka on a two-day visit. He is scheduled to call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday. He is also scheduled to call on Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen, and Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Saturday.
Adviser to the Prime Minister on Private Industry and Investment Salman F. Rahman attended a dinner in his honour.
Bangladesh Business Summit 2023, scheduled for March 11 and 12, is an international trade and investment promotion event being organised by Bangladesh’s apex business body Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI), in partnership with the government of Bangladesh.
The summit, envisaged to become Bangladesh’s flagship business promotion bi-annual event, seeks to highlight Bangladesh’s economic and market strengths, and concrete trade and investment opportunities in Bangladesh by convening national and global businesses leaders, investors, policymakers, practitioners, policy and market analysts, academia, and innovators.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the summit at 10am on Saturday at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC).
Apart from Saudi Arabia, ministers from the UK, UAE, China, Bhutan, CEOs of 12 multinational companies, and more than 200 foreign investors and business leaders from 17 countries of the world will participate in the summit.
The Saudi Commerce Minister is leading a twenty-member high level delegation.
A thirty-five-member business delegation is also accompanying him.
This visit is expected to impart further momentum to the bilateral and trade relations of these two fraternal countries, said the foreign ministry.
