Many students dream of studying at universities abroad, especially in the United States and Canada. The SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) is a key test for these students. It checks if they are ready for university-level studies. Most US universities require SAT scores as part of their application process. Good SAT scores can also help in getting scholarships.

The SAT is an important test for students who want to go abroad for graduation. It’s important to submit SAT scores only if the university asks for them. The SAT test shows how well students are prepared for university after finishing their SSC and HSC exams.

In Bangladesh, the SAT exam is held in five cities: Dhaka and Chittagong. The test is usually conducted in March, May, August, October, and December. Another test called the ACT is also accepted in many places as an alternative to the SAT.

Students can take the SAT after SSC or during the first year of higher secondary education. They can take the test multiple times, but it is quite expensive. Therefore, it’s best to prepare well and take the exam seriously the first time. Students from all fields—Science, Commerce, and Arts—can take the SAT.

The SAT exam lasts 3 hours and 45 minutes and is divided into three sections: Mathematics, Critical Reading, and Writing. Each section is scored out of 800 points, making a total of 2400 points. The minimum score is 600, while students aiming for prestigious universities usually score between 2000 and 2400.

Mathematics: This section has three parts. The first part has 20 multiple-choice questions with negative marking for wrong answers. The second part includes 8 multiple-choice and 10 grid-in questions with no negative marking. The third part has 16 multiple-choice questions.

Critical Reading: This section also has three parts. It includes Sentence Completion and Reading Comprehension, where students fill in the blanks and answer questions about passages.

Writing: Students will answer four types of questions: finding sentence errors, correcting sentences, editing passages, and writing an essay on a given topic.

To register for the SAT, visit the official SAT website and pay the application fee, which is about $101. You need to register at least one month before the exam date. Digital copies of your passport and photograph are required. The admit card will have details about the exam date, time, and location.

For preparation, start with practice tests and use study guides from official sources like Barron's, Princeton Review, and Kaplan. Regular practice and improving English skills are essential for scoring well. Reading English books and newspapers can help enhance your English abilities. The next SAT exam is scheduled for August 24.
