Bangladesh national women footballer Sanjida Akhter joined traditional East Bengal Football Club to play Indian Women League (IWL).
The attacking midfielder practiced at the club ground on Monday. She is the first foreign women footballer in the East Bengal Club. Sanjida also played a friendly match. Her team won the match. Teammates and the coach is pleased for her performance.
Sanjida said, “Football is a team match, so everyone have to perform in the ground.”
“I played my natural game. My teammates praise me. They are very cordial,” said Sanjida.
East Bengal will face off Sports Odisha at East Bengal Ground, Kolkata on Tuesday. East Bengal won over the team by 2-0 goals at capital Football Arena, Bhubaneswar on December 10, 2023.
After this outings Kolkata based team lost all five matches in a row. They are now in the sixth place out of seven and collected only three points from six matches. East Bengal suffered a big defeat against Gokulam Kerala by 4-0 goals on January 23.
The attacking midfielder knows about her team very well. Team is now under pressure.
“Players can’t show better perform in order to pressure. But we have to overcome,” Sanjida added.
There are a lot of renowned Bangladeshi footballers played in East Bengal after the Independence of India in 1947. Of them Khandakar Wasim Iqbal, Monem Munna, Rizvi Karim Rumi, Golam Mohammad Gaus, Sheikh Mohammad Aslam, Rakib Hossain and Minazur Rahman.
