A discussion meeting organized by the cultural organization Samageet Sangskriti Prangon on Saturday highlighted the urgent need for the interim government to ensure the rights, safety, and dignity of all citizens, regardless of caste, religion, or gender. Speakers stressed that building a new Bangladesh requires full participation from every segment of society and emphasized the importance of preserving the diverse cultural heritage from the plains to the hilly regions.
Held at Drikpath Bhaban in Panthapath, the event featured prominent voices addressing critical social issues. Journalist and writer Nurul Kabir criticized the Awami League government for showing signs of fascism and pursuing a dangerous agenda for maintaining power indefinitely. He called for the establishment of a new state that honors the achievements of the students’ and people’s movements, urging collective action to reshape the nation’s political landscape.
Artiste Arup Rahi expressed concern about rising violence against religious sites and individuals, highlighting recent attacks on shrines and temples. He insisted that such acts must be unequivocally condemned and stopped to restore peace and security for all citizens.
Singer Amal Akash passionately emphasized that cultural practices must flourish throughout the nation, asserting that any attempts to obstruct cultural expression would be met with resistance. His remarks resonated with attendees, reinforcing their commitment to cultural resilience.
The meeting began with a welcome address by Bithi Ghosh, General Secretary of Samageet Sangskriti Prangon, who set a tone of unity and action. Tofazzal Hossain conducted the event, facilitating discussions among participants.
