Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Samanta Lal Sen announced plans to address infrastructure challenges at Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital during a surprise visit on Monday morning. He assured swift renovations and expanded hostel facilities for medical college students nationwide.
Dr Samanta Lal Sen inspected various units at Mitford Hospital, including the emergency unit, ICU, and surgery ward. He interacted with patients, their families, and attending doctors to assess the hospital's operational needs.
Acknowledging space constraints and outdated facilities, the minister pledged immediate renovations and the commissioning of a new academic building. Plans also include upgrading the hospital's laboratory facilities to ensure a conducive working environment.
Discussing legislative priorities, Dr Samanta Lal Sen revealed that preparations for the Health Protection Act are underway, with the draft set to be presented in the upcoming parliament session. In addressing concerns about student accommodations across medical colleges and hospitals nationwide, the minister affirmed plans to resolve existing challenges promptly.
