Essential goods of the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) for the month of May was inaugurated in Jhenaidah on Tuesday.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the district SM Rafiqul Islam inaugurated the selling event in the town.
The programme was presided over by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Razia Akter Chowdhury.
TCB Jhenaidah area assistant director Atiar Rahman, Jhenaidah press club general secretary Foysal Ahmed and Jhenaidah municipal councilor Abu Bakar among others were present there.
During the inauguration, DC SM Rafiqul Islam said the government of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stands by the people so that they won’t bear the brunt of price hike. He assured of increasing the number of family cards for the people of Jhenaidah.
TCB sources said a total of 120,133 poor and marginal families are enjoying the essential goods at a subsidized amount Taka 470 every month.
They have been receiving two kilograms of lentil, two litres of soyabean oil and five kilograms of rice.
