The sale of Ropa Aman seedlings got momentum at Bangra Bazar Haat in Nabinagar Upazila of Brahmanbaria.
The farmers pass busy time planting Ropa Aman seedlings as the transplanting season has arrived. The seedlings are transplanted in Bengali months Srabon-Bhadra. However, farmers from long distance throng this Haat for buying and selling Ropa Aman seedlings.
Many farmers said that they are happy as they could collect Ropa Aman seedlings from this market as per their demands. On the other hand, the sellers expressed their satisfaction over the sale of Ropa Aman seedlings.
After visiting the market, it was seen that the Haat (market) gets busy with the presence of the farmers from the morning at Bangra Bazar. The farmers bring the seedlings which were grown on their seedbeds. They make bundle of Ropa Aman seedlings to sell them at the market. Each bundle of seedlings is sold at Tk 70 to Tk 140 according to their verities.
Amir Ali, a farmer of Akbarpur village of Muradnagar Upazila, said that they could not plant paddy seeds due to flood and other reasons. So he came to this market to buy paddy seedlings. He expressed his satisfaction as he got seedlings as per his demand in Bangra Bazar. He also said that the price is reasonable here.
Shishir Mia, a farmer who came from Satmora, said the sellers of different areas bring seedlings to this market. We can buy seedlings at a cheaper price here. So, I have come here from this distance.
Abul Hossain, a seedling seller of the market, said seedlings of BR-22, BR-49 and BR-50 paddy along with Khasa, Kalizira and Baraj Khasa paddy are widely sold in Bangra Bazar.
The wholesale traders from Rosullabad and Ratanpur are also taking seedlings from this Haat. So, the farmers are being benefitted as well.
Solman Mia, another farmer, said the price of seedlings are reasonable this year. It costs around Tk 800 to Tk 1,500 for buying paddy seedlings for per Kani (30 decimals) land. Farmers from Kosba also come to this market.
Nabinagar Upazila Agriculture Officer Jahangir Alam Liton said the area of Ropa Aman seedbed this year is 328 hectares. The cultivation target is 6,520 hectares.
