Salahuddin won’t contest BFF polls

Kazi Mohammed Salahuddin, the incumbent persident of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), who has been in the chair for last four terms, will not go for fifth term, as he announced it on Saturday.   

Salahuddin, the living legend of bangaldesh football told reporters at a press conference at the BFF Bhaban on Saturday.

The former star footballer, who took over the charge as the BFF president after being elected in 2008 and has since served four consecutive terms, made the announcement at an unplanned press conference at the BFF Bhaban.   

Salahudin, who earlier expressed his desire to compete for the fifth term in interviews with the media, even after the change of government, announce his new dcision.

Salahuddin, when in his speech said, “I was with you for last four terms. I consider myself very lucky to have had this opportunity in my life. I have decided to not contest in the upcoming elections, which is scheduled to take place on October 26. It is my final decision.” 

“From some quarters demands to extend the schudle of the BFF election. We request FIFA to consider defer the BFF elections from October 26, but the world football’s governing body did not gave it’s consent. FIFA did not agree to extend the time for a single day,” said Salahuddin.     

It was the first time since the fall of the Awami League government on August 5 that Salahuddin had come to BFF office at, Arambagh, Motihjeel.

Salahuddin did not reply to a query about the reason to change his earlier decision but it was known from sources that due to family pressure he had to refrain from compete in the election.
