A Dhaka court extended the deadline for submitting the investigation report in the case of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi's murders to November 18. This marks the 114th extension since the investigation began in 2012.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mahbubul Haque issued t issued the extension as the Investigation Officer, Khondoker Md Shafiqul Alam, an additional superintendent of police at Rab, failed to submit the report on the scheduled date.

Earlier, the court had ordered Rab to submit the report by October 15.

On September 30, the High Court expressed concern over Rab's inability to complete the investigation, calling it "unfortunate and shocking" due to the impact on the family and the nation.

The bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Muhammad Mahbub Ul Islam directed the home ministry to transfer the case to a high-powered task force to expedite the investigation, with a report expected within six months. The next hearing is scheduled for April 6, 2025.

This directive came in response to a petition filed by the government on September 29, seeking to amend a previous High Court order from April 18, 2012, which had transferred the case from the police's detective branch to Rab.

Sagar Sarowar, news editor at Maasranga TV, and Meherun Runi, senior reporter at ATN Bangla, were found murdered in their Dhaka flat on February 11, 2012. Their 5-year-old son was present during the incident. Runi's brother, Nousher Ali Roman, filed the case the following day.
