Russian House celebrates Pushkin’s birth anniv

Russian House in Dhaka arranged a programme celebrating the birth anniversary of Russian Poet Alexander Pushkin and International Russian Language Day in the capital on Wednesday. The programme started with a wreath-laying ceremony at Pushkin's bust sculpture at the Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building of the University of Dhaka. Honorable Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman was the chief guest.

Members of the Compatriots Association, students of Russian House language courses, students of Dhaka University and the media representatives were also present during the tribute. The Director of the Russian House in Dhaka Mr. Maxim Dobrokhotov and the Honorable Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka discussed the life and literature of Alexander Pushkin, the greatest Russian poet of all time and father of modern Russian language and his influence on Bengali literature. After the discussion, Dr Mamtaz Rahman and Sayeda Jolly of the Soviet Alumni Association, Bangladesh (SAAB) recited Pushkin's poems in Russian and Bengali. 

A grand celebration has been organized at Ranada Prasad Saha University (RPSU) in Narayanganj as well presided by Vice Chancellor of RPSU Dr Manindra Kumar Roy. Director of the Russian House in Dhaka welcomed all the guests highlighting that at the same time the whole world celebrates Pushkin's anniversary and International Russian Language Day.  Mrs. Ekaterina Semenova, Minister-Counselor of the Russian Embassy in Bangladesh noted Pushkin's contribution to the development of Russian and world literature, thanking Bangladesh for its careful attitude to Pushkin's heritage. Honorable Chairman of RPSU Mr. Rajiv Prasad Saha was present as the Chief Guest and Zaheed Reza Noor, Deputy Editor of Ajker Patrika, a graduate of Philology Faculty from Kuban State University (Krasnodar), discussed about Alexander Pushkin's literary works. Members of «Rodina» and SAAB performed short plays, poems and songs in Russian and Bengali, followed by a cultural program with the participation of the university students. A video presentation on Pushkin's life was also shown.
