Rural women in Jhenaidah on Sunday receivied training on nutrition aspects in groups to enhance their capacity for a better health for the family members.
The group training conducted by the field level officials of the department of agriculture extension (DAE). They have been providing the training course once a week at the doorsteps of the women.
DAE with the revenue budget conducting the training titled Programme on Agricultural and Rural Transformation for Nutrition, Entrepreneurship and Resilience in Bangladesh. International Development Agency (IDA) and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) have been assisting the joint venture for next five years.
When this correspondent visited a group meeting at Goyeshspur village under Paglakanai union of Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila, it was seen that about 30 women were discussing on various nutrition aspects in groups with the sample of nutritious food items like rice, pulse, edible oil, eggs, vegetables, cereal food grains, etc.
Group leader of the women Mousumi Khatun said that they have been participating in 10-week training course where they were participating once a week in the morning.
The housewife, a mother of two children, also said that every woman was very glad to know some easy but important information which would help make their families healthy. They also got training on cultivation of vegetables free from any hazardous chemical and pesticides. The method is completely environment-friendly.
While conducting the training session, DAE Sub Assistant Agriculture Officer of the block Shahanara Khatun, said, “The participants were enjoying the training course as they were answering the queries of others by themselves at their convenient time in the locality.”
Nur E Nabi, Upazila Agricultural Officer in Jhenaidah Sadar said the training course for the rural women will enhance the vegetable production and develop home gardening for the respective families. The neighboring housewives might follow when they will see the success. It will help meet the nutrition aspects in the houses and strengthen socio-economic condition of the rural housewives. They will cultivate their necessary vegetables and remove the malnutrition from the society.
