Shafin Ahmed, a celebrated figure in Bangladesh’s band music scene, has passed away. He died today after suffering a heart attack while at a hospital in Virginia, USA. Shafin had traveled to the US to perform in a concert that was scheduled to take place there.
Runa Laila, a renowned singer and close friend of Shafin, expressed her profound sadness over his unexpected death. "I am deeply shocked and saddened by this news," she said. "Shafin Ahmed’s death at such a young age is a huge loss. It is hard to come to terms with this reality. I feel terrible about his passing."
Runa Laila reminisced about Shafin's contributions to music, highlighting his special talent. "His music had a unique tenderness and ability to uplift people. He was a sensation among the youth, who found great joy and excitement in his songs. Shafin had a remarkable way of engaging his audience during live performances," she said.
She also recalled their personal interactions, saying, "We occasionally communicated on Facebook, and he would often comment on my status updates. There was even a time when he visited my home with a group of people to discuss copyright matters."
Runa Laila paid tribute to Shafin’s family background, noting the significance of his parents in the music industry. "His mother, Firoza Begum, was a legendary vocalist, and his late father, Kamal Dasgupta, was also a respected name in music. I remember receiving an award named after Firoza Begum, and that is when I had the chance to meet Shafin. That moment is a cherished memory for me."
Reflecting on Shafin’s final moments, Runa said, "Shafin was in America for a performance when he passed away unexpectedly.
While we cannot control life or death, this loss is deeply painful. I hope his family finds the strength to cope with their grief. My thoughts and prayers are with Shafin and his loved ones."
In her conclusion, Runa Laila emphasized that Shafin Ahmed’s music will ensure his legacy endures. "Even though he is no longer with us, his songs will continue to live on. His music will be remembered and cherished for years to come. May he rest in peace."
