Rajshahi University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Saleh Hasan Naqib, announced that the Rajshahi University Central Student Council (RUCSU) elections could take place within the next five months.
However, he emphasised that a final decision on the future of student politics at the university must be made first.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, VC said, “We aim to organise the RUCSU elections
within the next five months. But first, we need to determine if student politics will continue.”
The election process will only begin once this decision is finalised.
The university is considering two options regarding student politics: banning it entirely or reforming it to eliminate past corrupt practices. This discussion comes as students increasingly voice their opinions on the matter. Many are calling for a ban on student politics, with polls circulating on social media reflecting this sentiment. However, a significant group of students is advocating for a reformed version of student politics.
Professor Saleh Hasan Naqib stated that the decision on student politics will guide the upcoming RUCSU election process. The university community is awaiting further developments as discussions continue.
