RUCSU Andalan Manch demanded 5 points including stopping the occupation of hall seats by the name of the political block in the dormitories and opening hall union in every residential hall.
The demand was placed in a press conference held at ‘Paribahan Market’ at the campus at 11 am on Wednesday.
They also warned to go for a tougher movement if the demands would not meet between the next 7 days.
The other points are to ensure students’ safety at halls and including residential students in a legal way, updating hall seat list online, ensuring the opportunity for the hall authorities to perform their duties independently and cancelling the studentship of the Chhatra League activists, who are involved in hall seat trade.
Abdul Mojid Ontor, convener of RUCSU Andalan Manch said, In recent years, various irregularities, corruption and mismanagement have been risen in the halls of Rajshahi University. BCL leaders and activists seize hall seats and sell them to the students. Legitimate residential students are forcibly evicted from the halls, which is a great shame for this institution.
We want a speedy implementation of our demands to make the university meaningful, Ontor added.
RUCSU Andalan Manch secretary member Amanullah Khan, Nagarik Chhatra Oikka RU branch president Mehedi Hasan Munna, general secretary Mir Alhaz Hossain, RU Bangladesh Chhatra Federation general secretary Mohabbat Hossain Milon, RU Chhatra Odhikar Parishad general secretary Rakib Hasan, among others, were present at the press conference.
‘RUCSU Andalan Manch’ is a Rajshahi University-based platform, where the members of it demand and protest to activate Rajshahi University Central Students Union (RUCSU) again, which was active in the 1989-90 term for the last time.
