A student from the History Department of Rajshahi University (RU) has secured a CGPA of 3.50 in her third-year first-semester exams without actually sitting for the exams. The results were published on October 16, leaving many surprised.
According to university sources, the exams for the 2020-21 academic year took place between May 26 and June 6. When the results were released, Sadia Afroz Maria, who had missed her exams, was shown to have secured a first class.
Sadia explained, “I did not take the exams, and I am not sure how my results were published.”
The mistake was only noticed by students on Sunday, days after the results came out. Sadia was unable to sit for her second-year second-semester exams due to pregnancy, which also made her ineligible for the following semester's exams.
Professor Abul Kashem, the chairman of the examination committee, confirmed the error, describing it as unintentional. He said, “We are working with the controller of examinations to resolve the issue. There were three other teachers on the examination committee, and they handled the tabulation. I signed the final sheet as chairman.”
Another committee member, Professor Mahmuda Khatun, explained that the mistake occurred when someone else's marks were added to Sadia's blank column. She assured that it was simply a human error and that they are working to correct it.
The matter is now under review, and university officials hope to resolve it quickly.
