A workshop on ‘Current Situation and Future Context of Animal Welfare in Bangladesh’ was held at the Senate Building of Rajshahi University on Monday.
It was jointly organized by the International Society for Applied Ethnology (ISAE) and the Department of Veterinary and Animal Science of the University.
Addressing the program, as a special guest, Professor Sultan Ul Islam, pro-vice-chancellor of the university said, ‘Animals are deeply involved in human development. If you want to live in a beautiful environment, you have to work in Animal Welfare. Every organ of animals has different uses for human beings. We also use a variety of animals as food. As a result, we have to do better with animal welfare.’
Clive Philip, Professor at the University of Queensland, Australia delivered a keynote presentation on behavioural observation on the welfare of farm animals. Besides, Jasim Uddin, Associate Professor of Veterinary and Animal Science department of Rajshahi University delivered a technical presentation on that subject.
RU pro-vice-chancellor Professor Chowdhury M Zakaria, Veterinary and Animal Science department Professor Jalal Uddin Sattar and professor Manzoor Qadir were present at the inauguration program of the workshop while the department associate professor Jasim Uddin conducted the program. Besides, teachers and students from different departments of agriculture faculty of the university were also present there.
