An alumni female student of the International Relations department of Rajshahi University was allegedly harassed by two teachers of the same department at a time.
The alleged teachers are International Relations department chairman Md Shariful Islam and assistant professor Suban Kumar Chowdhury.
Bangladesh Post found a call record between one of the International Relations department teachers and another female student, who are reluctant to be named.
The female student of the department said in the phone call “It has been alleged that the career of a meritorious student of the 1st batch of the department has come to a disappointing end due to not agreeing to the evil proposal of the current department chairman Shariful Islam and Associate Professor Suban Kumar Chowdhury.”
“After being admitted to the International Relations department, the allegedly victimized student somehow managed to pass, avoiding the ‘evil eye’ of these two teachers. Earlier, she was offered relationship proposals from the two teachers separately. Although this student got 3.88 in the first year, she refused Shariful's proposal and later she could not continue her good grade in the department.”
“She left the university with a certificate of some sort, deeply disappointed and disgusted, with her dream of higher education was destroyed,” the record said.
It was also learnt from the audio recording that Suban Kumar Chowdhury said to her, “I made you first girl, what will I get in return?”
The unnamed victim student said, “Even though this incident happened a long time ago, it’s good that it has come forward now. They should be punished. I could not say anything at that time as I was afraid.” “Earlier the Syndicate of the university formed a committee to investigate Suben Kumar Chowdhury after allegations of student torture were raised against him but it is not known what this committee did,” phone record says.
However, one of the alleged teachers Shariful Islam dropped the phone call and another teacher Suban Kumar Chowdhury was not found while Bangladesh Post tried to contact them.
