Fine Arts Faculty of Rajshahi University celebrated Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bengali new year without ‘Mangal Shovajatra’ this year to protect the sanctity of holy Ramadan. The University authority directed to finish the programs by 5 pm.

Last two years, during the pandemic, Pahela Baishakh was celebrated online. But this year, after normal situation of the pandemic there is no event being seen at the Rajshahi University campus except Fine Arts faculty.

Students of Fine Arts painted different folk arts at the walls of the faculty. Students from different department and visitors were seen taking pictures with those arts. Halkhata Utsav has been organized by the faculty.

A few small temporary shops have been set up in the center of this festival.

Tasnuva Aman, a third year student of Graphics Design, Crafts and History of Arts said, Baishakh brings a new tide of joyness in our life.

There is no conflict between Baishakh and Religion. However, I do not know why limitations are set to observe this festival this year. Even then, we, the only students of the Fine Arts faculty are organizing various events.

Professor Mohammad Ali, dean of Fine Arts Faculty said, We divided the Pahela Baishakh program in two events. Among them one is ‘Halkhata’ which was inaugurated at 11 am today.

And at the end of ‘Baishakh’ on 14 May, we will bring out ‘Mangal Shovajatra’, when Ramadan days are over.

University Proctor Ashabul Haque said, I don’t know why they are not bringing out ‘Mangal Shovajatra’.

We did not forbid them. However, we have just directed to finish all the programs before 5 pm because of the holy Ramadan.
