RPC protests defamatory remarks about Father of Nation

President and the General Secretary of Rajshahi Press Club Saidur Rahman and Aslam -ud-dowla in a joint statement have vehemently condemned and protested the alleged defamatory remarks made by the Editor of a local Bangla daily in Rajshahi and demanded a proper investigation of such allegations and his punishment. 

They further said, the Editor also allegedly drew the stipend money allocated by Zila Parishad for distribution among common students and misappropriated that money through eight of his staff. 

RPC President and the General Secretary further mentioned by exploiting his newspaper, the Editor of the local daily is engaged in conspiracy against Rajshahi Press Club and its President and was publishing a series of false, concocted, motivated news against him. 

RPC executives termed the remarks by the local Editor seditious and against the conscience of the Freedom Movement of the country. They demanded a proper investigation of the incident and if proved guilty, an exemplary punishment of the said Editor. Public leader Ataur Rahman Smriti Parishad also made the same demand in a separate statement.

It is learnt, on May-27, local Awami League leader Sharif Uddin( Vice-President of AL, RCC ward-13) submitted memorandum to the Home Minister, DG of PIB and to DC, Rajshahi through the DC against the Editor of the local daily demanding his punishment on the basis of some specific allegations. 

The memorandum mentioned that the Editor of the local daily Liakat Ali is an identified, anti-liberation personality. He is also allegedly involved with various controversial activities and irregularities. In a function organised by Sushashoner Jonno Nagorik held at the auditorium of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 2003, Liakat Ali allegedly said, ' Khuni Miujibur Rahman er Moronottor Bichar Chai'. 

Participants in the function included former Muktijoddha Commander of Rajshahi Dr.Abdul Mannan, Member of Jatiya Mutijoddha Council that day expressed their anger over such remarks of Liakat Ali.' 

The memorandum further mentioned, fund allocated by Zila Parishad for the stipend of common students of a school has also been allegedly drawn and distributed among journalists of his newspaper. The memorandum demanded proper investigation and punishment against the responsible Editor of the local daily.
