A battle for the ages is arriving on Netflix later this summer, as Rowan Atkinson takes on a formidable opponent in an upcoming bonkers comedy – a bee.
The aptly-named Man vs Bee, the release date for which is scheduled for June, will follow the Mr Bean star as he goes up against the insect while housesitting a luxurious mansion… and if the first look images are anything to go by, it’s going to be one hell of a war.
In the official poster for the nine-part show, Rowan, 67, is seen crouching by a marble kitchen surface, a deadly look gleaming in his eyes while holding a spatula, ready to strike at any moment.
In the background, a pot blazes with fire on the hob, while the bee perches in front of the actor, almost daring him to make the first move.
Many viewers might be able to relate to the plight of Rowan’s character, when they’ve previously experienced the struggle of finding an unwanted insect in their home that won’t go away no matter what they try.
In the official synopsis for Man vs Bee, it teases that the main character’s contest with the bee will cause unprecedented mayhem, as it states: ‘Who will win, and what irreparable damage will be done in the process?’
Written by Will Davies and co-created by Will and Rowan, Man vs Bee also stars Jing Lusi, Julian Rhind-Tutt, Greg McHugh, India Fowler, Claudie Blakley, Tom Basden.
With each episode lasting between 10 and 20 minutes, we expect it’s going to be one hell of a tumultuous battle between the pair. But who will come out on top?
Last August, Rowan was spotted filming the show in Buckinghamshire, adopting a new look with long shaggy hair.
Writer and co-creator Will previously worked with Rowan on the 2003 film Johnny English, as well as its 2011 and 2018 sequels Johnny English reborn and Johnny English Strikes Again.
So, it’s safe to say audiences can expect hilarious action full of twists and turns to come their way when Man vs Bee drops on Netflix.
