Cristiano Ronaldo left Manchester United under a grey cloud in 2022.The Portuguese superstar became a club legend during his first spell at Old Trafford between 2003 and 2009, winning his first Champions League and Ballon d’Or before winning several at Real Madrid.
Following spells at Madrid at Juventus, Ronaldo returned to United in 2021. The man who signed him – Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – was dismissed shortly after his arrival, and there was instant tension with interim manager Ralf Rangnick.
Erik ten Hag would later clash with Ronaldo which led to a shock interview with Piers Morgan in November 2022. Ronaldo spoke out against the manager and club before joining Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr over a month later.
“I repeat I still love Manchester United and I wish them the best.”
Ronaldo acted out of line during his second spell at United, before forcing a second exit from the club.
Speaking on the “Rio Ferdinand Presents” podcast set to air on Thursday, Ronaldo said he was happy with the way the club’s administrators, led by INEOS boss Jim Ratcliffe, were investing in infrastructure.
“They need to rebuild everything, in my opinion … the club needs time to rebuild because it’s still one of the best clubs in the world, but they need to change. They understand that this is the only way. Ronaldo said, “We cannot control some points of our lives sometimes but it’s done, it’s already done.
