‘Romeo and Juliet’ by William Shakespeare is about two young people from feuding families who fall in love, only to suffer from several unfortunate events and die together. Juliet, a Capulet, is expected to marry the ‘perfect’ nobleman, Paris, while Romeo, a Montague, is suffering from a heart break after the ‘love of his life’ rejected him. Many people dislike this play but I love it. Shakespeare’s writing was beautiful, tear-jerking and humorous, and it made Verona seems like a romantic dreamland. The rather inappropriate jokes made reading a lot more entertaining and I loved the personalities of all the characters, especially the Nurse and Mercutio. I loved reading Romeo and Juliet (although the ending was slightly frustrating, especially when I watched the movie after) and I would definitely recommend others to read it- whether it’s for school or for your own pleasure.
Probably the most famous work of Shakespeare, ‘Romeo and Juliet’ is a tale of two star-crossed lovers. Romeo is part of the Montague family while Juliet is a Capulet, and in spite of the sworn hatred between both families, the two begin to have romantic feelings towards one another. Unfortunately, as their love grows, their families come to know of their meetings, and this leads to a lot of drama. The story is so famous because it is very well-written with great character development. But, the major problem I have with the book is its basic plot. At the same time, the easy-to-follow story has led to its adaptation in several modern books and movies. While most people would know of the story, it is whole different experience to actually read the book and decipher the language used in those days. I would recommend the book to anyone.

Although it is written in old English, you can find some books have translated it into modern English. This book regards two families, the Capulet (Juliet’s family) and the Montague’s (Romeo’s family) hated each other. Romeo and Juliet struggle throughout the story to convince their families to put their past aside and let them love each other.
I’d never thought I’d enjoy this book/play, let alone read it. After being forced to read it in English class, I found myself surprised on how much I loved Shakespeare’s writing. I never found myself enjoying Shakespearean writing as I found it quite hard to understand. That changed after reading Romeo and Juliet. The writing is passionate, lyrical and humorous. It is amazing that you can find all these in a tragedy; only a great master can accomplish that feat. The story is both romantic and tragic, as we well know. But what is incredible is that the play is a “beautiful” tragedy.
This is one of the most outstanding plays that I have read. I don’t recommend this book to anyone who is still in Elementary school as the writing is difficult to understand and there are some suggestive lines. For students in High School, give the play a chance. It is amazing when you truly understand what is happening.
