The Rohingyas, who have fled Myanmar, agreed to return home on two conditions. These are providing adequate security and arrangement of living on their own homes. Additional Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Mohamed Samsuddoja Nayan said such information came after a meeting of the Chinese delegation and the refugee relief and repatriation commissioner's office on Sunday afternoon.
He said that the Chinese delegation led by Lee Zimming, Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh visited the Rohingya camp on the Zero Line at the Tombru Konarpara border of Ghumadhum in Bandarban on Sunday. They talked to Rohingya people about repatriation. Samsuddoja Nayan also said that Chinese Ambassador did not speak to any Rohingya leader who had sought refuge at the zero line. He jumped straight into the line and hit 4 to 4 Rohingya with the general Rohingya. When the Chinese ambassador asked them to return to Myanmar, they informed that they would return home if they agreed on two terms.
The delegation then visited the Zero Point of the Bangladesh-Myanmar Friendship Bridge at Ghumadhum from the Tumbru border and spoke to some BGP members in Myanmar. Later, they held a half-hour meeting in Cox’s Bazar town. Shamsuddoja Nayan said the delegation expressed satisfaction over Bangladesh's readiness to return.
However, Li Jiming did not agree to speak to reporters. The delegation is scheduled to visit the Rohingya camp again on Monday. On the other hand, the US delegation arrived at Cox's Bazar Airport on Sunday morning under the leadership of US Ambassador Robert Earl Miller. Later in the afternoon, the delegation went to Kutupalong No. 1 Rohingya Camp. There, the delegation spoke to the Rohingya on the issue of repatriation and monitored the Rohingya service and food assistance activities. Then they left Cox's Bazar around 4 pm.
Remarkably, on August 22, China sent a delegation to the Rohingya retreat. The government held talks with the Rohingya in the presence of a Chinese representative. But the Rohingyas did not agree, and the repatriation process was halted. It is to be noted that on 23 August, a simultaneous attack was carried out at 8 security checkpoints in Rakhine.
In response, Myanmar's army started oppressing the Rohingya. As a result, seven lakh Rohingya migrated to Bangladesh to seek refuge in Bangladesh. More than 1 million Rohingya now live in five camps in Ukhia-Teknaf, including Purano. However, according to UN data, the number is 1 lakh 5 thousand 5. The number of women and children is high among them.
