Rohingya man tried to get passport

A young man came to the regional passport office in Kishoreganj to get a passport through a broker. At that time he introduced himself as a permanent resident of Niamatpur union of Karimganjupazila. 

He mentioned that his name was Sadeq Hossain. Mohammod AnisurRahman, Assistant Director of the Regional Passport Office, was suspicious of the young man's statement. He understood during interrogation that the young man was a Rohingya. He was later enclosed and handed over to the police. The incident took place at Kishoreganj Regional Passport Office on Wednesday (September 2) morning.

According to the Regional Passport Office and police sources, officials and employees were warned not to issue passports to Rohingyas. As part of this, he  interrogated without accepting Sadek's application. 

During interrogation, Sadek admitted that he came to Chittagong from Sindhipara in Myanmar via Cox's Bazar. He has been living in Garibullah Housing at Chittagong and working in a grocery store for 8-9 years. His elder brother Rahman, who lives in Malaysia illegally, sent him to the passport broker Imam Hossain last Saturday. 

Imam Hossain lives in a rented house adjacent area to Azimuddin School in the district town. Rohingya Sadek has been staying in that house for 4 days. In the passport application, Mohammod Hossain of Niamatpur union of Karimganj upazila introduced as his father and Latifa his mother. In fact, his father's name was Late Anwar Hossain. He also gave a birth certificate dated September 26, 1998. The date of issue of the birth certificate is September 1, 2018, the number of which is 19984814277114933. The passport application has the name of lawyer Sajjadul Haque as the certifier.

Mohammad Anisur Rahman, assistant director of the Kishoreganj Regional Passport Office, said he had language problems during the interview and the parents' national identity cards were identified as fake. Sadek later admitted that he was a Rohingya citizen.

Kishoreganj Model Police Station Officer in charge (oc) Abu BakkarSiddique said legal action was being taken against the accused.
