A decomposed body of a Rohingya man with severed limbs was recovered from the hilly area adjacent to Chakmarkul no. 21 Rohingya camp in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Nazim Uddin, 47, son of Mohammad, resident of Block B-2 of Chakmarkul no. 21 Rohingya camp.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Teknaf Police Station Muhammad Osman Gani said the body was recovered from the hilly area adjacent to Block A of Chakmarkul no. 21 Rohingya camp under Whykong union in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday evening.
Quoting the locals, OC Osman Gani said the locals noticed an unidentified body in the western hill approximately 300 meters away from the barbed wire border of the Chakmarkul no. 21 Rohingya camp and informed the police. Later, a team of police reached the spot and recovered the body.
OC Osman Gani said the right limbs, along with the testicles, were severed from the body of the deceased. His skin fell off and everything from the inside of his head came out accept the skull. Stench was spreading from the decomposed body. It was considered that the person was killed at least 8 to 10 days ago and his body was left by the miscreants in the jungle.
He said the police started investigation to discover the identity of the deceased after recovering the body. Later in the night, a Rohingya woman named Sahuda Khatun identified the deceased as her husband after noticing the rope in his waste and the clothes beside him.
Osman Gani said the reason behind the killing could not be known immediately. They are conducting drive to identify and detain those who are involved in the incident, along with discovering the reason behind the murder.
The body was sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
