A Rohingya man was killed in a landslide while he was reportedly cutting a hill at Ukhiya upazila in Cox's Bazar district on Friday afternoon.
The incident took place at around 5pm at West Morichya Dalarmukh area under Palong union in the upazila. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Alam, a resident of Ukhiya Rohingya Camp in the upazila. According to locals, one Delwar has been cutting the hill illegally for a long time. Mohammad Alam was working for him on Friday.
At one stage, a big chunk of mud from the hill fell on him, leaving him dead on the spot.
They also alleged that an influential quarter is involved in this illegal activity and urged the authorities concerned to take the legal action in this regard.
Dhoapalong Range Officer Mohammad Abdur Rashid confirmed the death matter adding that, a team of the Forest department visited the spot and legal action would be taken against the accused.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the spot and sent it to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
