A Rohingya man was stabbed to death by miscreants in an attempt to establish supremacy in a Rohigya camp of Ukhiya Upazila in Cox’s Bazar on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Mohamamd Ismail.
Officer-in-Charge of Ukhiya Police Station Md Shamim Hossain said the incident occurred at Block D of Kutupalong 2-East No. Rohingya camp in Ukhiya upazila at 4:30 pm.
Quoting the locals Md Shamim Hossain said Mohammad Ismail was going back home through a sand field of Block D in Kutupalong 2-East No. Rohingya camp. At one point, five to six unidentified miscreants stopped him and took him away. Later, they took him to the local sand field and stabbed him for several times. They fled the scene after that.
On information, a team of police reached the spot and rescued Mohammad Ismail. Later, he was taken to MSF Hospital adjacent to Kutupalong Rohingya camp where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
There were multiple stab wounds in the body of the deceased. The doctors said he died due to excessive bleeding.
The OC said the reason behind the killing could not be known immediately. However, primarily the police received information that the incident happened in an attempt to establish supremacy in the Rohingya camp.
The police are conducting drive to identify and detain those who are involved in it, said Shamim Hossain.
The body of the deceased was sent to Cox’s Bazar Zila Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
