Highway robbers looted valuables of the passengers of a bus, stanched goods from three trucks and three locally made three-wheeler on the Chaugachha-Maheshpur highway in Jashore.
The incident took place near GCB Adarsa College on early Tuesday. Passengers said the robbers intercepted the vehicles putting electric poles on the road before snatching money, mobile phones and ornaments from them at gunpoint around 3.30 am.
One of the passengers, Azizur Rahman, from Arpara village, who was in the bus of J-Line Paribahan (Dhaka Metro-B-15-1403), said that he had Tk 10,000 and robbers took it all from him at gunpoint.
Passengers alleged that the robbery went on for about two hours and police arrived soon after they left. Police suspect some young boys were involved in the incident.
“We are were trying to nab the culprits,” said Rifat Khan Rajib, officer-in-charge of Chaugachha Police Station.
