A night watchman was beaten to death by robbers in the late night robbery at Rajapatti Bazar in Jhikargacha Upazila of Jashore district on last night.
The deceased night guard is Abdus Samad (45) is the son of deceased Turfan Moral of Mangerela village of Jhikargacha union.
Locals said that a group of 8/10 armed robbers came to Rajapatti market in upazila in a pickup van late on Saturday night.
Later, 4 night guards in the market were severely beaten and tied hands, feet and face.
At this time, the robbers broke the lock of Jhikargacha Auto Electrical Workshop and looted 25 batteries and flee.
On receiving information about the robbery, the police reached the spot and rescued the night guards.
Abdus Samad, an unconscious night guard, was taken to Jhikargacha Upazila Health Complex for treatment, and the on-duty doctor, Dr. Sama Sanjida, declared him dead.
The other three injured are night watchman Sukumar Sarkar (57), Yusuf Hossain (58) and Kamal Hossain (60).
Khairul Islam, owner of Jhikargacha Auto Electrical Workshop said, The lost batteries of his shop are worth around 4 lakh taka. He demanded quick arrest of those involved.
On the other hand, the son of the slain night guard Noornabi has demanded compensation for the murder.
Jhikargacha police station OC Suman Bhakta confirmed the incident and said, Police visited the spot. Efforts are underway to arrest those involved. The deceased's body has been sent to Jashore General Hospital morgue for post-mortem.
