Police detained a youth with arms and sharp weapons from West Maijdi area under Kadir Hanif union in Noakhali sadar upazila on Thursday.
The detainee was identified as Saiful Islam Nazrul, 27, son of Abul Kalam Azad Mostafa, resident of West Maijdi area under Kadir Hanif union in the sadar upazila. Police from Begumganj Model Police Station detained him. He had a LG gun, steel range, guti range and sharp chisel with him at that time.
Police said he is a member of a robber gang. He has 12 cases against him. Hh was arrested at noon on Thursday.
The accused was sent to the district jail through the judicial court.
Police said a gang of robbers looted two persons, named Harunur Rashid Biplob and Kamruzzaman Liton, on gun point and later beat them up at Ekota market area under Narottampur union in Begumganj upazila on July 10. A case was filed in the police station on behalf of the victims. A drive was conducted with the help of information technology at West Maijdi union under Kadir Hanif union based on the complaint. They arrested robber gang member Saiful Islam Nazrul during the drive. Later, the weapons were recovered by conducting a drive at his house based on the information given by the accused. Superintendent of Police of Noakhali district Mohammod Asadhujzzaman said the accused who was detained is an arm carrying robber. He and the other miscreants have kept arms in their possession for the purpose of committing criminal activities. The accused have conducted criminal activities before at various areas of Noakhali district with the weapons under their possession. A case was filed against him in connection with this incident.
