Bitumen carpeting has started falling apart in different places before repairing work is being finished at Ulipur upazila. According to the locals, the situation has arisen due to poor quality of materials and low amount of bitumen. In this situation, the people are having to suffer a lot including the traffic on that road. This has caused intense anger among the local people. However, the upazila engineer claimed that the local people were removing the bitumen carpeting.
It is learned that tenders were called for the renovation work of 1545m paved road from Tejarmor of Daldalia union of the upazila to Fakirpara village in the fiscal year 2020-21. Rangpur-based NN Enterprise was given the responsibility of renovation work worth around Tk 42 lakh. Masood Rana, a businessman from Ulipur, bought the job even though the name of the NN Enterprise contractor was written on the paper. The carpeting work of the road was started last Wednesday.
But it is falling apart in three days as carpeting is done with low quality material.
Acting Deputy Assistant Engineer Akram Hossain said work on the road was done on Wednesday and Thursday.
But this happened because the excavator was passing over the road. He also said that some locals were trying to remove the carpet.
