We cannot provide them security because my policemen are still in a state of panic. Police installations are still being attacked in different parts of the country. Policemen are being injured. We city dwellers are much better off.”

Appreciating the work of students in the traffic order on the road, the police commissioner said, “We have already held meetings with the mayor of Rangpur City Corporation and the leaders of Jatiya Party district and metropolitan units, BNP district and metropolitan units, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami district and metropolitan units and IslamiAndolonBangladesh Rangpur district and metropolitan units.”

The police officer sought the cooperation of journalists and said, “I wish for the cooperation of everyone, including the city dwellers, through you (journalists). My policemen will return to work and they will need your direct and indirect role so that people of all levels will cooperate with them. We request you to do that.”

Meanwhile, Rangpur District SP Md Shahjahan (PPM) said, “We want to work as people's police. On many occasions, it is not possible to do it under any pressure from higher authorities. We want to work independently. The police want to be people's friends, not enemies. We want that freedom. You have seen that many of our policemen have been killed all over Bangladesh. Many were injured. They cannot overcome that fear. Police are still being attacked in different parts of the country. However, we are constantly talking about engaging our members. They have given some of their demands, in fact they are reasonable, we have tried to bring their demands to the knowledge of the new IGP. I have spoken to the higher officers and they have assured us.”

“Our policemen will join the work in a short time. We request your cooperation. It is not possible to bring back the normal situation without everyone's cooperation. Therefore, I wish for the cooperation of all through you,” the SP told the press conference.

Other police officials, journalists from print and electronic media were present.
