A Dhaka court on Thursday placed six leaders of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islam, including BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Miah Golam Parwar, on a three-day remand each in a case lodged over vandalizing and setting Setu Bhaban in the capital's Banani area on fire on July 18.
The other remanded accused are – BNP’s Organizing Secretary Qazi Sayedul Alam Babul, Publicity Affairs Secretary Sultan Salauddin Tuku, Dhaka North City Unit Member Secretary Aminul Haque, and BNP's Bagerhat district Convener MA Salam. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rashidul Alam passed the order as police produced the six before the court after the end of their five-day remand in a case for vandalizing Kazipara Metro Rail Station in the capital's Mirpur area, and pleaded to show them arrested in Setu Bhaban attack case and place them on seven-day remand.
A mob of 250-300 people on July 18 stormed into the premises of Setu Bhaban, vandalized many vehicles, and motorbikes, ransacked different sheds and rooms, and later set those on fire. They attacked and beat many employees black and blue.
