Bangladesh River Workers Federation call on an indefinite strike demanding 11-point including food allowance, stopping extortions in the river way from Saturday.
As a result, all types of vessels, including passengers and cargo, remained suspended from the Ashuganj River Port. Ashuganj River Port of Brahmanbaria has been paralysed due to this strike across the country since Saturday.
The passenger launch has been halted from the port of Ashuganj to the five river routes of Hawar area. Hundreds of freight cargo ships have been stranded at Ashuganj river port due to this strike.
Freight cargo stranded at the Ashuganj port, as a result thousands of workers become workless for that reason.
People are facing extreme misery at Kishoreganj, Habiganj, Sunamganj, Haor area at that route due to the strike.
Thousands of workers have become unemployed due to the situation of the port's activities. The demand of 11-points are, stop extortions in the river way, wages of labour according to 2016 gazette , approve of landing pass for India goers' workers, food allowance approved by owners, Tk10 lakhs for worker’s compensation. Central Coordinator of the River Workers Federation, Habibullah Bahar said the boat owners and the government were forced to go on strike because of repeatedly broken promises. This time they will not withdraw the strike until the final settlement of their demands.
